Mikel Arteta insists Max Dowman will get opportunities in the Arsenal first team this season – but says he must earn his minutes like every other player in the squad.
The highly-rated youngster has been pushing for more first-team involvement, with Arteta admitting he would like to have him around more often but is restricted by squad limits.
“Well, I wish we could have him here but we have the limitation with the numbers that we can have,” Arteta said.

“He will have his chance, he will have his minutes and he will have to earn them like anybody else.”
Arteta also stressed the importance of continuing Dowman’s development while making sure he is ready to contribute when called upon, with the 16-year-old largely involved with the club’s youth teams of late.
“We know the talent that we have, we know the players that we have there and we need to help him and find a way to make sure that he continues to develop and help the team.”
Dowman could be involved when the Gunners take on Ipswich in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night.
