Mikel Arteta claimed he is “100%” confident Myles Lewis-Skelly will remain at Arsenal this summer.
The 19-year-old has drawn reported interest from both Manchester United and Chelsea in this transfer window, following reports suggesting Arsenal were open to selling the midfielder.
Lewis-Skelly has featured heavily in pre-season, starting in all four of Arsenal’s friendlies before playing a key role in their Community Shield win over Manchester City on Sunday.
The teenager assisted Riccardo Calafiori’s opener, which came after just 23 seconds, becoming the youngest player to either score or assist in the Community Shield since Bukayo Saka’s assist for Arsenal against Liverpool in 2020 (18 years, 359 days).
Lewis-Skelly also started in the Champions League final for Arsenal last season, becoming the second-youngest Englishman ever to start a Champions League showpiece, only behind Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold in 2018.
Ahead of their Premier League opener against Coventry City, Arteta was asked how confident he is that Lewis-Skelly will stay at Arsenal, to which he responded: “100%.”

Arteta has won 149 of his 248 Premier League games in charge. Victory against Coventry would see him become just the fifth manager to reach 150 victories in fewer than 250 games in the competition, after Pep Guardiola (204), Jose Mourinho (231), Jurgen Klopp (237), and Alex Ferguson (247).
The Gunners could also receive a boost for their opener as Ezri Konsa is reportedly close to joining from Aston Villa.
When asked if a defensive signing could feature against Coventry, Arteta said: “I’m always positive and confident.
“I cannot control [it]. It doesn’t depend on us. We are trying our best to achieve that.
“We have a specific issue in the backline especially with the long-term issue of Willy [William Saliba]. We miss one more defender so we are trying to reinforce that area.
“When we’re ready to announce something, we’ll let you know.”
