Arsenal wants to hijack Sunderland transfer
Igor Paixao was close to moving from Olympique Marseille to Sunderland, but Arsenal have joined the race and want to hijack his proposed move to the Stadium of Light. The Brazilian winger only moved to OM last year, but he enjoyed a strong season and showed that his impressive performances at Feyenoord were not simply because he was playing in the Netherlands.
Paixao has established himself as a top performer, and Sunderland want him to join their squad during this transfer window as they look to strengthen their team. The Premier League club had moved close to completing the transfer, but Arsenal’s late interest could now change the situation.
According to Team Talk, Arsenal have reportedly entered the race in the last few hours and want to hijack Sunderland’s move as they prepare for Gabriel Martinelli’s departure. The report states that the Gunners consider Paixao one of the top players they could add to their attack and would attempt to convince him to abandon the move to Sunderland.
Arsenal’s interest comes at a time when they are looking to strengthen their attacking options before the transfer window closes. Paixao’s ability on the wing makes him an attractive option, particularly with the Gunners preparing for changes to their attack.

Paixao knows that Arsenal are a bigger club, while the presence of a significant Brazilian contingent at the Emirates could make it easier for him to adapt to life under Mikel Arteta. That connection could give the Gunners an advantage as they attempt to convince the winger to choose them instead of Sunderland.
The circumstances appear favourable for Arsenal to make their case, particularly because Paixao would be joining a club with ambitions to compete for major honours. His previous performances have already demonstrated his quality, and the Gunners believe he could strengthen their attack.
With Martinelli potentially leaving, Arsenal need to bolster their options on the wings before the transfer window closes. Paixao has now emerged as a possible solution, although Sunderland were already close to securing his signature.
The Gunners will therefore need to move quickly if they want to hijack the transfer. Paixao must also be convinced to change his plans, but Arsenal’s status and Brazilian presence could help them persuade the 26-year-old to move to north London.
