Romero has thanked Arsenal and Barcelona for their interest in him, but he has chosen to join Atletico Madrid instead. William Saliba is currently sidelined with an injury and Arsenal need more depth in the defensive unit. It has no surprise that they were keen on the Tottenham star. On the other hand, Barcelona are looking to build on a title winning team so that they can dominate Spanish football and do well in the Champions League.
It remains to be seen whether the Spanish outfit can get the deal across the line. Diego Simeone is looking to add more depth to the defensive unit, and Romero should prove to be an excellent acquisition.
He has consistently shown his quality in the Premier League with Tottenham, and there is no doubt that he has the ability to succeed in La Liga as well. He has helped his country win major trophies, and he could help Atletico Madrid compete with Barcelona and Real Madrid next season. They will be hoping to fight for the title, and they need to tighten up at the back.
