Arizona Cardinals have received trade calls for pass rusher Josh Sweat

One notable player who was absent for voluntary OTAs (organized team activities) for the Arizona Cardinals was outside linebacker Josh Sweat. The team’s sack leader in 2025, he is not injured.

It has led to speculation as to whether he is happy with the team a year after signing four-year, $76.4 million contract.

Other teams are checking in.

According to reporter Jordan Schultz, the Cardinals have received trade calls for Sweat.

What does this mean?

That’s the part we don’t know.

Sweat had 12 sacks and is on a decent contract, so teams might just be calling. Receiving trade calls just means other teams are interested. Having trade talks means the Cardinals are entertaining the idea of trading him. We have no report of trade talks.

Now, is Sweat unhappy?

He supposedly requested a trade after Jonathan Gannon was fired as head coach. Sweat is close with Gannon, who is now the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers.

Sweat’s absence from OTAs doesn’t necessarily mean anything. He missed some of them last year, after he had just signed his contract.

He knows the defense. The defensive staff is mostly the same.

However, if he doesn’t want to be in Arizona, moving him makes sense. He is a quality player at a premium position whose contract is not too bad. It would be bad for the defense, as he is one of the best players on the team and they did zero to improve the outside linebacker room this offseason. They perhaps could get a Day 2 pick.

However, trade calls mean little. Trade talks matter. Wait to see if they begin having those.
