Arizona Cardinals expected to attend pro day for QB Brendan Sorsby

The Arizona Cardinals have at least some interest in Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby, who has applied to be in the NFL supplemental draft next month. Sorsby will hold a pro day, tentatively scheduled for July 10, and the Cardinals should be in attendance, according to Arizona Sports 98.7 FM’s John Gambadoro.

“It will be like almost any other pro day. I expect the Cardinals to be represented,” he said. “What I can tell you is the Cardinals have done a lot of extensive research on Sorsby already, because there was a chance he could have been in this year’s (NFL Draft).

“I would expect that they will have interest. Where in the draft, I can’t tell you. But because they don’t know if they have an answer at quarterback, they will continue to look at the quarterback position. Having Carson Beck in the third round does not rule out the Arizona Cardinals from taking a chance on Sorsby in the supplemental draft.”

Sorsby has had a roller coaster of an offseason. He has played two seasons at Indiana and the last two for Cincinnati. He transferred to Texas Tech, a team expected to compete for the national title in 2026. However, after he admitted to a gambling problem where he placed bets totaling tens of thousands of dollars, including on college sports and on his team, he was ruled ineligible to play in 2026. He entered rehab in Arizona and was treated for a gambling addiction, and he initially fought to be able to play for the Red Raiders. He filed suit and was granted an injunction that would restore eligibility while the case was heard. However, with the deadline to apply for the supplemental draft approaching, he has decided to withdraw his suit, making him ineligible again, and to focus on a potential NFL career.

The Cardinals were expected to be big players in the 2027 draft for a quarterback. Sorsby, with a good 2026 season, could have been a first-round pick.

It would be possible for the Cardinals, or any other NFL team needing a quarterback, to get Sorsby, potentially a franchise quarterback, with a pick other than in the first round.

We will see what sort of interest the Cardinals will have.
