AP Top 25 Poll – Texas A&M’s next opponent enters rankings

Texas A&M remains outside the AP Top 25 Poll following its bye week, but the Aggies’ next opponent has entered the national rankings.

The Aggies sit at 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC play after falling 31-20 to Alabama on Oct. 24. Texas A&M has lost three consecutive games and remains winless on the road this season. Mike Elko’s team will look to reverse that trend Saturday when it visits No. 23, South Carolina.

The Gamecocks entered the rankings after defeating Oklahoma 42-25, improving to 5-3. South Carolina received just eight votes in last week’s poll but climbed into the Top 25 following Saturday’s victory. The matchup gives Texas A&M a chance to earn a ranked road win as it tries to salvage its season.

Several of the Aggies’ previous opponents also moved in Sunday’s rankings. Texas climbed to No. 10 after defeating Mississippi State 31-3, while Missouri jumped four spots to No. 19 after a 34-10 win over Arkansas. Alabama moved up to No. 9 despite being idle.

Nationally, Miami retained the No. 1 ranking after surviving a 38-35 loss to North Carolina. Georgia climbed to No. 2, while undefeated Utah moved into the top three. Ohio State experienced the biggest drop among the nation’s leading contenders, falling nine spots to No. 11 after losing 30-18 to USC.

USC returned to the rankings at No. 18, while New Mexico earned its first AP Top 25 ranking in program history at No. 22.
