The first AP Top 25 Poll of the 2026 season was released on Monday, featuring Texas A&M ranked inside the top 10, after finishing last season with an 11-2 record and an appearance in the first round of the College Football Playoff.
Placed at No. 8 in the AP Poll, the Aggies are facing one of the most challenging schedules in the country, with contests slated against six teams ranked in the top 25. The Southeastern Conference had the most teams ranked, with nine programs making the cut, followed by the Big Ten, which had eight representatives.
Here is where every team, including the Aggies, was ranked in the first AP Poll Top 25 of the 2026 season:
- Ohio State Buckeyes
- Oregon Ducks
- Georgia Bulldogs
- Notre Dame Fighting Irish
- Texas Longhorns
- Indiana Hoosiers
- Miami Hurricanes
- Texas A&M Aggies
- Ole Miss Rebels
- Oklahoma Sooners
- LSU Tigers
- Texas Tech Red Raiders
- Alabama Crimson Tide
- BYU Cougars
- USC Trojans
- Michigan Wolverines
- Washington Huskies
- Penn State Nittany Lions
- SMU Mustangs
- Tennessee Volunteers
- Utah Utes
- Iowa Hawkeyes
- Houston Cougars
- Louisville Cardinals
- Missouri Tigers
Entering his third season with the Aggies, head coach Mike Elko boasts a 19-7 overall record and led his team to the program’s first 11-0 start since 1992 in 2025. Many of Texas A&M’s stars from last year’s squad, especially on the offensive line, departed for the NFL. The Aggies tied a program record with 10 players selected in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Elko wasted no time rebuilding during the offseason, reeling in the No. 3 transfer portal group and No. 8 recruiting class in the nation. The group of transfers includes four offensive linemen with SEC experience, who will be called upon to replace the four starters lost to the pros.
While questions remain up front, the rumblings around Texas A&M’s fall camp point toward a much-improved Marcel Reed, which could lead to the offense taking a big leap this season.
