Anvil Axe Company hosts first National Throwing Tournament
NEOSHO, MO — For the first time since opening its doors, Anvil Axe Company in Neosho hosted its first National Throwing Tournament over this past weekend.
Owned and ran by Gregg Ward, Anvil axe Co. has played host to many regional and local tournaments. However, Ward mentioned that this was the first time he has had the opportunity to host one of the biggest throwing tournaments in the world.
“There’s four National [Tournament] locations as of right now,” Ward explained. “Los Angeles, [California], Denver, [Colorado], Hartford, Connecticut and now Neosho, Missouri. I feel like that says a lot for the quality of business that we run here.”
Ward also stated that there were 86 throwers from 15 different states in attendance with only three of them advancing to the World Championship.
The different disciplines included knife throwing, knife duals, hatchet throwing, hatchet duals and big axe throwing.
Ward, participating in the competition, spoke on what hosting a tournament like this means for the axe and knife throwing scene in the Four State area.
“For the company, this is a big recognition in the axe throwing world. I knew nothing about throwing axes seven years ago. Now seven years later, I’m able to compete with the best of the best. To me that’s a huge accomplishment and we want everyone to have that same kind of experience here.”
