Anvay Dravid earns India under-19 call-up for Sri Lanka tour

Rahul Dravid’s younger son, Anvay has made it into India’s Under-19 squad for its tour of Sri Lanka starting July 4.

The junior selection panel, headed by S Sharath, has announced two separate squads for the tour, one for the three one-day matches and another for the two multi-day fixtures.

Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan has been handed the captaincy for both formats, while Anvay Dravid features in the white-ball squad as a wicketkeeper-batter.

Anvay was part of the Under-19 setup in the previous World Cup cycle and turned out for India Blue in a tri-series. 

With age firmly on his side, there was always an expectation that he would be in contention as a fresh qualification cycle got underway. That cycle has now begun, and Anvay has taken his first step into it.

How has Anvay Dravid performed in the domestic circuit?

Anvay’s form at the domestic level gave the selectors plenty to work with. In last year’s Vinoo Mankad Trophy, he captained Karnataka’s Under-19 side and finished as one of their key players. He scored 220 runs across six matches at an average of 55.00, which was the second-highest tally for his team.

His top knock of an unbeaten 82 came against Himachal Pradesh, where he walked in at number four and saw Karnataka home in a chase of 236.

He also made 63 off 75 balls in a group-stage defeat to Chandigarh. Karnataka won four of their five group games to finish second before bowing out to eventual champions Hyderabad in the quarter-finals.
