Antony: I don’t regret choosing Betis over Bayern

Antony has insisted he does not regret choosing Real Betis over Bayern Munich last summer.

The former Manchester United winger spent the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan with Betis before joining permanently on a five-year deal last summer.

Since making his debut for Betis in February 2025, no player for the club has scored more goals (23) or provided more assists (15) across all competitions than Antony.

Antony also leads his team-mates in dribbles completed (85), while he has created the second-most chances (124), behind Pablo Fornals (136).

He helped Betis reach the Conference League final in 2025 while on loan, and a fifth-place finish in LaLiga last season saw the club secure their place in the 2026-27 Champions League.

Though he has plenty of admiration for Bayern, Antony stood by his decision to stay on with Betis.

“It was, of course, a great honour,” Antony told Bild about receiving an offer from Bayern.

“I have enormous respect for Bayern Munich and also for Vincent Kompany. He’s a coach I admire a lot.

“When a club like Bayern shows interest and the coach calls you personally, that means a great deal to a player.

“It was a decision I made together with my family. At that time, I was going through a difficult period in my life and needed a place where I could be happy again, not only as a footballer but also as a person.

“I felt that Betis was exactly the right club for me. That’s why I don’t regret this decision at all!

“I want to win titles. That is always my main objective. I also want to keep improving my stats, score more goals, and provide more assists.

“But above all, I want to help the team and have an even better season than last year.”
