Anne Hathaway‘s new R-rated thriller has just arrived on digital, instantly becoming one of the biggest movies in the United States. Hathaway’s slate of movies in 2026 has been a packed one, continuing what has been a very successful career for the actress thus far. This year alone, Hathaway saw the return of one of her most iconic franchises, starring in the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada alongside multiple returning cast members. The star was also a key part of the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, playing Penelope in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, a fantasy epic like few.
Hathaway has also starred in the psychological drama Mother Mary and the dinosaur survival movie The End of Oak Street this year. While those films were not major box office hits, both of them found success when they became available to watch at home, be it on a streaming service or through VOD. That is now being repeated for Hathaway’s latest release, as the R-rated psychological thriller Verity, which is based on the Colleen Hoover novel of the same name, has instantly become a nationwide digital sensation, also featuring Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett, after its box office success.
Hathaway’s Verity Is Already A No. 1 Streaming Sensation
At the time of writing, Verity stands as the most popular movie on the Apple TV Store’s Top 20 Movies chart in the United States, according to data from FlixPatrol. Verity was originally released in theaters on October 2. With a reported budget of $40 million, the thriller needed to finish its theatrical run between $80 million and $100 million to break even. With $162.7 million so far, Hathaway’s new movie has not only broken even, but also entered profitable territory. Less than a month after its theatrical release, Verity was released on digital on October 27, making it an instant hit.
At on the Apple TV Store’s US chart, Verity has left behind several movies. That includes a couple of other recent VOD releases, including Ridley Scott’s new sci-fi movie The Dog Stars, at 3rd, and the animated fantasy movie Forgotten Island, at 10th, both of which dropped on digital on the same day as Verity. Hathaway’s R-rated psychological thriller also ranks higher than major films like Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Hathaway’s own dinosaur movie The End of Oak Street and fantasy epic The Odyssey, Alan Ritchson’s Runner, Guy Ritchie’s In the Grey, and many more.
What Does Hathaway Have Coming Up?

After making 4x its budget in theaters and immediately topping digital charts, Hathaway’s Verity will make way for another wave of releases from the star. In 2027, Hathaway will appear in the Ron Howard war movie Alone at Dawn. After that, the star has a couple of major sequels in the works, including 2028’s Days of Thunder sequel, which will see Hathaway team up with returning franchise star Tom Cruise, as well as The Princess Diaries 3, which is still in development and has yet to have a confirmed release date. Verity‘s success on digital and likely hit status whenever it arrives on streaming should boost interest in Hathaway’s new movies.
