Andy ‘The Butcher’ Williams Dies: AEW Wrestler Was 48

Andy Williams, an All Elite Wrestling star known as The Butcher and a metalcore guitarist, has died at age 48.

Williams died on Saturday night after a medical emergency during an Enjoy Wrestling event at Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale, Pennsylvania, as the Allegheny County Medical Examiner’s Office told TMZ.

Williams and his tag-team partner, Jesse Guilmette a.k.a. The Blade, had a match against wrestler TME at the event.

Enjoy Wrestling said in an X post on Saturday that Williams collapsed at the end of his match and that doctors on staff provided immediate medical assistance, administering CPR until an ambulance arrived.

According to dispatch audio TMZ released Sunday morning, a male wrestler hit his head on a ring post at Saturday’s event. A cause of death for Williams has not been released.

In its X post, Enjoy Wrestling thanked everyone who helped and who reached out and said that everyone at Saturday’s event was sent home.

Williams’ death comes as Enjoy Wrestling winds down operations after five and a half years. In an Instagram post last month, the organization said it would host just three more events, of which Saturday’s was the second.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling star Matt Hardy is one of the social media users mourning Williams. “Saddened [and] shocked to hear about the passing of Andy Williams,” Hardy wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “Andy was a joy to work with — he was a kind, funny, [and] deep individual who was an extremely talented musician [and] wrestler. My thoughts [and] prayers go out to all of Andy’s family, friends, [and] fans. RIP brother.”

Williams and Guilmette were signed with AEW from 2019 until earlier this year, when their contracts expired, according to Fightful.

In addition to his wrestling career, Williams also played rhythm guitar for the metalcore band Every Time I Die from its 1998 formation until its 2022 split, according to Kerrang! Following that group’s dissolution, Williams formed a new band called Atomic Rule, which released its first music in 2025.

Williams’ former Every Time I Die bandmate Jordan Buckley rallied support for Williams on X on Saturday night, writing, “If you’re [the praying type], please, please pray for Andy tonight.”
