Anchor university reappoints prof Ope-Davies to governing council

His approach to connecting “gown to town”, according to the institution, has resulted in initiatives aimed at strengthening community engagement and positioning the university as a contributor to public discourse and development.

Ope-Davies’ Contributions

The university highlighted the institutionalisation of community engagement as one of Ope-Davies’ notable contributions.

It cited the establishment of Anchor University’s first Distinguished Public Lecture series, delivered by the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.

The initiative was designed to contribute intellectual resources to public debates, strengthen relationships with local stakeholders and position the university as a catalyst for national development.

The university also credited Ope-Davies with promoting international collaborations between Anchor University and institutions abroad, as well as extending his Digital Humanities initiative at the University of Lagos to the institution.

‘Reappointment Signals Continuity’

Reacting to his reappointment, Ope-Davies expressed appreciation to the university’s Chancellor for the confidence reposed in him.

He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the relationship between Anchor University and its host community while ensuring that the institution continues to contribute to the development of its immediate environment and the nation.

The professor said the reappointment signals continuity and stability for the university’s Governing Council as the institution seeks to build on the foundation established during its first decade and advance to a new phase of development.
