Ruben Amorim believes AC Milan are “still far from our potential” despite making an unbeaten start to their Serie A campaign.
Milan have won three of their opening five league games in 2026-27 (D2), leaving them fifth in Serie A, two points behind leaders Roma.
Amorim (W3 D2) is only the third foreign manager in Milan’s history to remain unbeaten in each of his first five Serie A games in charge, after Luis Carniglia (W3 D2) and Nils Liedholm (W4 D1), both in 1963-64.
Overall, he is the first Rossoneri manager to achieve this since Massimo Giacomini (W2 D3) in 1979-80.
However, Milan made a losing start to their Europa League campaign after a 2-0 defeat at home to Benfica.
Amorim acknowledged there are plenty of improvements needed when his squad return from the international break.
“We try to dominate the games consistently; we play well at times, but there’s still a lot of work to do,” Amorim told Sky Sport Italia.

“I don’t like to hear people talk about this Milan as Amorim’s Milan. Milan is Milan.
“The club has a story and an identity that go beyond a coach’s name. I want to see a team with an identity that can win even when things don’t run perfectly.
“We are still far from our potential, but we need time and continuity. We have many games, we must win and improve at the same time, it’s not easy.
“Many things are missing; I can say it without any problem. I think we have to improve as a team to create more chances.”
Milan face Sassuolo in their first Serie A game after the extended international break before taking on Salzburg in the Europa League.
