Alpine ‘Not Happy’ With Red Bull Over Missing Podium Trophy

Alpine, which successfully won the review over Pierre Gasly’s penalty, now owns a third-place finish this season at the Monaco Grand Prix.

However, Alpine does not yet have the trophy, as Red Bull claims it is back in France and in Isack Hadjar’s possession.

Hadjar did not cross the line in third place; rather, it was given to him after the fact, following Gasly’s penalties being enacted.

Alpine and Gasly challenged the penalties to the FIA and then managed to get them overturned, marking a big victory for the French racing team.

With the team not having won the trophy yet, Sky Sports F1 reporter Ted Kravitz shared that Alpine and its executive, Flavio Briatore, were not pleased about not having it back.

“I understand that Flavio Briatore has called it unsporting,” Kravitz said.

“Flavio Briatore is not happy about it and has said it’s unsporting of Red Bull to unreasonably, in his mind, withhold the trophy from Monaco.”

Plans were in place for Alpine to celebrate on Monday, but those will have to wait as there are new discussions about the trophy being held now.

In reality, Alpine will likely be more upset about Red Bull and McLaren also appealing the result of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Red Bull and McLaren are challenging the overturning of the result in the first place.

Alpine’s real pain

Also, Pierre Gasly is left with no way to get over the pain of his initial reaction.

“It’s a real shame the one thing we can’t undo is that moment of elation where Pierre goes on the podium with the team and he sees all the guys and girls below,” Nielsen said.

“We can’t give him that back, which is a real shame, because honestly, if I could choose, I’d rather have that then the points. But we’ll take the points because they are useful, it’s the best result we could have got and very positive.”
