MLB fans are locked in and making fun of the New York Mets after they officially dropped out of postseason contention.
The New York Mets fell to a 69-81 record after their latest 2-1 loss against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday. This officially eliminated them from playoff contention.
The Mets have the second-highest payroll in the MLB, at a reported $344 million for the 2026 season. Juan Soto, Bo Bichette, and Francisco Lindor alone account for nearly $150 million.
Despite their riches, though, they have failed to make it to the postseason for the second season in a row after losing in the NLCS in 2024. And fans online are loving it.

New York Mets become fourth NL franchise to be eliminated from playoff contention and fans are ruthless in response
The Mets are hardly the first team to suffer this fate in the MLB this season. However, their payroll is far larger than any of the other teams eliminated before them.
All the financial advantages they enjoy make the Mets an easy target for their detractors when the team fails to perform. And that’s exactly what happened after their latest defeat.
“The Mets eliminated by the team that signed Pete Alonso. Now that’s poetry,” one fan said. “Mets get eliminated and the Yankees clinch a playoff spot on the same night, it’s almost poetic,” another wrote.
“Remember when they signed all those players and Mets fans expected a deep postseason run?” a third fan asked. “Missing the playoffs for 2 straight years with Juan Soto on the team. Great job,” a fourth added.
“Over 350 million to not make playoffs, at least the Dodgers can win,” a fifth fan commented. “There are three certainties in life: Death, taxes, and that the Mets will always mess up their season,” said a sixth.
The ball club’s hierarchy have a lot to consider going into next season. Considering how much money they spend, this is not an acceptable result for the franchise for the second season running.
