‘Allegri makes us feel good’ – Napoli goalkeeper Meret enjoying time with new boss

Alex Meret said he and his Napoli team-mates hope to give head coach Massimiliano Allegri “great satisfaction on the pitch” to repay his faith in the squad.

Allegri was appointed as Napoli boss this summer following Antonio Conte’s departure, while Allegri himself left AC Milan after just one season in charge.

Milan earned 70 points in Serie A last season (considering always three points for a win), ending the campaign outside the top four positions for the first time in their history in the competition.

The Rossoneri finished fifth in the league last season and missed out on Champions League football, leading to Allegri’s exit.

Napoli, meanwhile, failed to defend their Serie A title as they ended the campaign second, behind eventual champions Inter.

Allegri will now look to guide Napoli to the Scudetto, and goalkeeper Meret believes they are working well under the veteran coach.

“Allegri makes us feel good, we’re working calmly,” Meret told Sky Sport Italia.

“We’re very happy that he’s our new coach, and we hope to give him great satisfaction on the pitch.

“He places a lot of importance on the technical side, and gives great value to every gesture.

“He’s reminded us several times that a single gesture done well can change a match, but also a season, and it’s an aspect we’re working on a lot.”

Allegri has plenty of experience in Serie A, winning 322 of his 544 games (D116 L106) during spells in charge of Milan (twice), Juventus (twice) and Cagliari.

The 59-year-old has won the Scudetto six times as a head coach, doing so five times with Juve and once with Milan.

However, his 52.6% win percentage with Milan last term was the second lowest of any of his spells with a Serie A club, after winning just 36.6% of his games at Cagliari.

He will look to make a winning start at Napoli, who face Genoa on August 22 in their first game of the season.
