The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed that all 154 students affected by the recent adverse drug reaction at Government Science Secondary School (Boarding), Batagarawa, have fully recovered and been discharged from hospital, with no loss of life recorded.
The Command said the students developed symptoms after receiving Praziquantel tablets during a Bilharzia treatment and prevention exercise on October 26, 2026, prompting their evacuation to designated health facilities for urgent medical attention.
According to the Police, the remaining 25 students who had been receiving treatment as in-patients have now been successfully treated, discharged, and reunited with their families and schoolmates. The Command added that all the affected students are in good health and high spirits.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ali Umar Fage, expressed appreciation to residents for their cooperation, patience, and calm throughout the incident, describing the public response as commendable.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, the Command urged members of the public to continue disregarding unverified rumours and fake news, particularly false reports alleging deaths at the school.
The Police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Katsina State while calling on citizens to rely only on credible and official sources of information.
