Aliyu reacts as ICPC probes REA

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has commenced a probe of the Rural Electrification Agency, REA.

In a statement, the Managing Director of REA, Aliyu Abba, welcomed the probe.

According to him, the comprehensive system study and review of REA’s operations is part of efforts to deepen accountability and improve transparency.

Aliyu emphasised that as the REA continues to manage increasingly significant programmes, partnerships and investments, it carries a heightened responsibility to ensure that its internal frameworks are fully accountable, transparent and fit for purpose.

He called for increased collaboration between the commission and the agency’s Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, ACTU.

“Transparency is strongest when an organisation is willing to open its systems to external scrutiny, identify operational gaps, and actively implement corrective measures,” the MD said.

He pledged that the collaboration with the ICPC and ACTU would be a continuous framework, ensuring ongoing evaluation and strengthening of the systems driving rural electrification across the country.
