Alexis Sanchez set for MLS transfer, could play against former teammate Lionel Messi this month

Like many soccer stars who have enjoyed successful careers in Europe, 37-year-old Alexis Sanchez looks set to see out his playing career in the MLS.

After spells in Argentina and Italy as a youngster, Sanchez secured a big move to FC Barcelona in 2011 where he played alongside Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi.

But now, the former teammates look set to become rivals as it has emerged that the Chilean is joining CF Montreal on a free transfer.

Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano recently shared the update via X/Twitter.

He wrote: “CF Montreal agree deal to sign Alexis Sanchez on a free transfer, here we go!

“Former Sevilla striker joins on a two year contract, free move and documents in place.”

Sanchez spent three years on Barcelona’s books and in that time, played 117 matches with Messi.

The duo notched 25 joint-goal participations during that period, but could now go head-to-head in the MLS as early as this month.

Montreal are due to clash with Messi’s Miami side on August 29 in an MLS fixture, with the latter likely to be clear favourites.

Inter are currently second in the Eastern Conference after 18 games, only behind first by two points.

But Sanchez’s new side are down in 14th place after winning just four from 18, a run of form they are no doubt hoping will change once the ex-Arsenal man joins.
