Alexis Sanchez agrees two-year CF Montreal contract

Alexis Sanchez has agreed to join CF Montreal on a free transfer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Montreal has reached an agreement with the Chile international on a two-year contract. Sanchez is available without a transfer fee following the end of his spell with Sevilla.

The agreement is one of the most recognizable moves in the latest transfer news, but Montreal must still complete the remaining formalities before presenting Sanchez as its new player.

The 37-year-old spent the 2025/26 campaign in Spain after joining Sevilla as a free agent. He recorded four goals and two assists in 28 appearances during his only season with the Andalusian club.

Sanchez will arrive in Canada with experience from several of Europe’s biggest clubs. He represented Udinese, Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Inter and Marseille before returning to Serie A and later moving to Sevilla.

His best Premier League performances came with Arsenal, where he became one of the most dangerous forwards in England. Sanchez later won Serie A twice with Inter and also lifted La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Club World Cup during his time at Barcelona.

He remains Chile’s record goalscorer and most-capped player, having scored 51 goals in 168 international appearances. Sanchez was also central to the team that won consecutive Copa America titles in 2015 and 2016.

Montreal is signing a player capable of operating from the left, behind a central striker or as the most advanced attacker. His acceleration has declined with age, but his movement, close control and ability to find shooting positions could still make him valuable in MLS.

Sanchez would also bring experience to a team that endured a difficult 2025 campaign. Montreal finished 13th in the Eastern Conference after collecting only 28 points and scoring 34 goals.

The two-year contract represents a substantial commitment to a player approaching the final stage of his career. Montreal is betting that Sanchez can provide an immediate attacking return while giving the squad a leader who has played at the highest level for more than a decade.
