The new fantasy romance movie follows a fisherwoman (Olivia Colman) who hires a basket weaver (Peter Dinklage) to make her a husband. When his living wicker creation (Alexander Skarsgård) ignites a sexual awakening in the fisherwoman, this rocks the gossipy, buttoned-up town around her. 2026’s Wicker debuted in North America on October 23 and earned a 3-day opening weekend gross of $5.7 million, which marks the best domestic debut of all time for its U.K. and U.S. distributor, Black Bear Pictures. The movie also sold out 4DX screenings in 76 locations.

Black Bear Pictures has officially announced that Wicker will expand its domestic run to more than 2,300 theaters in North America during the movie’s sophomore weekend. This sees the fantasy romance being added to more than 829 screens after its debut in 1,471 domestic theaters. Additionally, its 4DX run is being expanded following the strong turnout during its opening weekend.

This marks the biggest expansion yet for Black Bear, which has only recently begun distributing movies in the United States after spending more than a decade as a production company for movies including Knock Knock, Mudbound, The Happytime Murders, Nyad, I Want Your Sex, and Train Dreams. So far, the only one of the six previous movies that they released domestically to play in more theaters during its second weekend was the Leo Woodall crime movie Tuner, which debuted in limited release on just four screens.

Below, see a breakdown of how many theaters Black Bear’s U.S.-distributed films played in during their first and third weekends, as well as how they performed overall at the domestic box office:

Considering the fact that Wicker was able to outgross the Jason Statham action movie Shelter during its opening weekend in spite of playing in 1,255 fewer theaters (thanks to its per-screen average of $3,906 compared to Shelter‘s $2,028), this expansion gives the movie a strong chance to become Black Bear’s highest-grossing domestic release by far. In fact, if it follows Shelter‘s trajectory while maintaining its lead over its per-screen average, it could potentially earn more than $25 million in North America by the end of its run.

That total would most likely see it turning a profit in North America alone. Wicker‘s reported budget is just $10 million, meaning its estimated break-even point is likely $25 million or below. The fact that it could hit that benchmark just in domestic theaters is a great sign, as the U.S.-U.K.-Australian co-production has yet to open in the United Kingdom (where it debuts on October 30) or Australia (where it debuts on November 5), and both of its other home territories should add to its worldwide total considerably.
