Alex Otti: APC gives Orji Kalu, Nkwonta 14 days to apologise

Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has issued a 14-day ultimatum to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Chris Nkwonta to publicly apologize for remarks deemed anti-party, or risk facing disciplinary measures.

The decision was made by the State Working Committee, SWC, chaired by Chijioke Chukwu, during a meeting in Umuahia on Wednesday.

This follows Kalu’s assertion on national television that Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, LP, would secure re-election in 2027, and Nkwonta’s declaration at a reception for the President’s wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, in Ukwa East, where he expressed his intention to vote for Otti.

In a statement by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Uche Aguoru, the SWC unanimously condemned both statements as unstatesmanlike, embarrassing, and detrimental to the party’s unity and electoral prospects for 2027.

The APC noted that such conduct contravened Article 21.2(11) of the APC Constitution, which permits disciplinary action against members whose actions undermine the party.

The SWC called on both lawmakers to issue unreserved public apologies that reflect their commitment to the party and its candidates for 2027 within the specified timeframe, cautioning that non-compliance would lead to the formation of a disciplinary committee to recommend sanctions.
