Alex Golesh gives update on Da'Shawn Womack arrest, status with Auburn football

TAMPA, Fla. — Auburn football head coach Alex Golesh has confirmed that defensive lineman Da’Shawn Womack was arrested earlier this summer.

“We’ve handled the punishment piece internally,” Golesh said Monday, July 20. “We’re waiting on the legal part of it to, I guess, go through what it’s got to go through. Then we’ll make a decision from there.”

Womack, who transferred to Auburn from Ole Miss this past offseason, was reportedly arrested last month and charged with reckless endangerment.

According to an Auburn Police Department arrest report obtained via records request by the Montgomery Advertiser, Womack was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. His arrest occurred at 10:25 p.m. CT June 6 on Shug Jordan Parkway, and no weapons nor injuries were reported at the scene. Based on Alabama state law, Section 13A-6-24, Womack’s charges are considered a Class A misdemeanor in the state. That could constitute up to a year of jail time and $6,000 in fines.

A rising senior, Womack spent three seasons in the SEC before transferring to Auburn, spending two seasons at LSU before breaking out at Ole Miss last fall. With the Rebels, Womack had career-highs in total tackles (27), tackles for loss (4.5) and sacks (2).
