Even when the once-invincible MCU is no longer performing quite as well at the box office, Spider-Man remains an absolute titan. Long before Marvel Studios organized to bring Spider-Man back to the MCU, the web-slinger was consistently a fixture in Disney’s top three merchandise sellers. And if there’s one lesson to take from Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s huge box office success in 2026, it’s that audiences will always come out for a new Spider-Man movie.
The future for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker is, at the moment, a little unclear. There’s some expectation that he could reappear in either Avengers: Doomsday or, more likely, in Avengers: Secret Wars, and Brand New Day is, of course, expected to start a new trilogy. Holland is already talking about his future beyond Spider-Man and Spider-Man’s future without him, but before he passes the torch, Marvel will be looking to make as much money out of him as possible. With no confirmed details about Brand New Day‘s sequel, Spider-Man fans are looking ahead to a bit of a void.
The good news, though, is that Spider-Man movie fans will not have to wait very long for the next theatrical Spidey release. But when Spider-Man swings back into theaters in a matter of months in 2027, Peter Parker will not be the hero leading the charge.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Makes Miles Morales Marvel’s Main Spider-Man

In just over 7 months’ time, on June 18, more than 2 years after it was originally supposed to be released, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will finally make it to the big screen, wrapping up Sony’s masterpiece trilogy. With that, of course, the spotlight will shift back to Shameik Moore’s Miles Morales as Marvel’s flagship cinematic Spider-Man for 2027. Following Across the Spider-Verse‘s explosive ending, Miles returns to save his family and himself, with both The Spot and Miguel O’Hara (aka Spider-Man 2099) on his tail and some of the series’ best characters returning.

While Spider-Man: Brand New Day initially isolated Peter Parker, Beyond the Spider-Verse will see Miles Morales working with other heroes. His first obstacle will be the alternate-universe Miles Morales, who became the Prowler and could be an unlikely ally in his quest to defeat The Spot. And then there’s the small matter of Oscar Isaac’s Miguel and the Spider-Society hunting him across the multiverse to stop him from disrupting Canon Events and collapsing more universes.
He will also reunite with Haley Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy, who is essentially a co-lead at this point and was last seen actively assembling her own crew of spider variants to track Miles down. That also includes Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker and other more colorful variants like Spider-Ham and Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir. Even a crossover with Tom Holland’s version of the character is unlikely but not entirely impossible.
Why Miles Morales’ Future Looks Brighter After Brand New Day

Miles Morales’s popularity goes well beyond Sony’s Spider-Verse movies. There’s long been a call for him to appear in live-action, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s post-credits scene might be the closest we’ve gotten to a tease of his appearance in the MCU, since Donald Glover’s Homecoming cameo name-checked his own nephew, Miles. That conspicuous blip on Ned Leeds’ Spider Tracker app almost immediately fueled major speculation that Miles could be about to appear in Avengers: Secret Wars.
And it’s not like those theories come without foundation. The team behind the MCU has made no secret of their long-term intentions to potentially introduce Miles Morales. Tom Holland himself has spoken passionately about passing the torch to the next Spider-Man, and unless that’s Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales is firmly in the picture. He said, “I know that I have aspirations to bring Miles Morales into the universe, how ever that works out… I feel incredibly grateful for the way I was introduced into this world, and then I was shepherded by [Robert Downey Jr.] I would love to kind of return that favor to the next generation.” Holland doubled down on these comments later by confirming that he has “a really clear vision for the passing of the baton“, and he thinks it’s really exciting.
He’s not the only one to talk about Miles Morales coming to the MCU either. Marvel Studios executives and producers have echoed the same sentiment, consistently teasing that Miles Morales will come to live-action as an inevitability rather than just a dream. Now that Beyond the Spider-Verse is preparing to deliver the end of Sony’s animated trilogy, the path seems clear for a new version of Miles Morales (probably not played by Moore) to take over or to at least join Tom Holland’s Peter Parker on screen. And as Holland says the prospect is really exciting.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse lands in cinemas on June 18, 2027.
