AC Milan considers January loan move for Joshua Zirkzee
AC Milan is considering another attempt to sign Joshua Zirkzee in January, with a loan containing an option to buy the proposed route, according to Calciomercato.it’s Claudio Galuppi.
The Manchester United forward remains on Milan’s radar as he struggles to establish himself in the starting lineup at Old Trafford. A move would bring him back to Serie A, where he previously impressed with Bologna.
Galuppi reports that Milan wants another option alongside Gonçalo Ramos and Francesco Camarda. Zirkzee was already a target when Paulo Fonseca took charge in 2024, before the Dutchman chose to continue his career in England.
His future at United came under scrutiny again toward the end of the latest summer window. He was close to joining Everton on deadline day, with reports suggesting United withdrew from the deal after sending fellow striker Chido Obi out on loan.
Michael Carrick then insisted that Zirkzee remained important to his squad, emphasizing the number of games ahead and the need for depth. The United coach also acknowledged the player’s desire for more minutes.
“He wants to play more than he has done and that’s good,” Carrick said in September.
The 25-year-old started just five of his 26 appearances for United last season and did not feature in either of the club’s opening two league fixtures this term.
United signed Zirkzee in July 2024 on a contract running until June 2029, with an option for a further year. He arrived after helping Bologna qualify for the Champions League, having scored 11 goals and supplied five assists in the 2023/24 Serie A campaign.
That breakthrough followed earlier spells with Bayern Munich and loan moves to Parma and Anderlecht. Bologna signed him in 2022, and his progress in Italy earned him a place in the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024. He made his international debut in the quarterfinal victory over Turkey before also appearing against England in the semifinals.
