AAU cancels microbiology students’ examination over wild jubilation

· · 2 min read

EKPOMA, NIGERIA – Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, has cancelled the MCB 414 examination taken by final-year students of its Department of Microbiology following a violation of the university Senate’s existing rules on wild jubilation.

The decision was ratified by the university Senate at its 335th regular meeting held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, according to an internal memorandum dated October 15, 2026.

The memorandum, issued by the Senate Services Division and addressed to the Head of the Department of Microbiology, stated that the Senate ratified the Vice-Chancellor’s approval for the cancellation of the examination.

The document, with reference number AAU/SSD/SM/11, attributed the decision to the violation of the university Senate’s extant rule on wild jubilation by final-year students in the department.

As part of the decision, the Senate directed the affected students to retake the examination during the 2026/2027 academic session, subject to the payment of their school fees.

“Senate further directed that the students should write the examination next academic session (i.e. 2026/2027 session) after the payment of their school fees,” the memorandum stated.

The directive means that the affected students will have to wait until the next academic session to retake the MCB 414 examination, rather than retain the results of the examination that was cancelled.

The memorandum was signed by F.O. Omogui, Deputy Registrar (Senate), on behalf of the Registrar. It was intended to formally communicate the Senate’s decision to the department’s leadership for necessary guidance and compliance.

The university’s action underscores the consequences of violating institutional regulations governing student conduct. However, the memorandum did not provide further details about the specific incident of wild jubilation, the number of students affected, or whether additional disciplinary measures would be imposed.

The decision places the affected final-year Microbiology students under an academic directive requiring them to retake the examination in the next session after fulfilling the stipulated school-fee payment requirement.
