Aaron Donald Breaks Silence on Unprecedented Rams Return After Retirement

Los Angeles Rams got their man back — Aaron Donald, the star defensive end, is back after two years of retirement to form a ridiculous pass rush unit.

Even when Donald retired, he was the best pass rusher in football from the defensive tackle spot. He can move out wide at the end and also play on the inside as a defensive tackle.

No matter where he lines up, Donald can create pressure, and now he gets to avoid those pesky double and triple teams, with a prime version of Myles Garrett also to account for.

Rams fans are rightfully salivating at the prospect of both playing on the same defensive line.

The news of Donald’s return came on Sunday, the final day of roster moves to set up the 53-man roster. He is returning on a one-year, $20 million deal, with up to $30 million in total after incentives.

During his first press conference as a returning Rams player, Donald described a long process that led to his comeback.

He first worked out with his cardio trainer to see where he was before taking the next step and jumping into football workouts.

Donald studied all the footage from his workouts and came away quite impressed. In fact, his speed trainer said that Donald looked like he “did not miss a step.”

All the steps and the long wait were necessary for Donald, a freak of nature on the field the last time people saw him, and he wanted to make sure he could still play near his best.

Now, the question is when Donald will return to the football field in a game. He had his first official practice on Sunday, doing individual drills and joining a long team meeting.

McVay and Donald both denied putting a timeline on when he will play, whether it is Week 1 or further down the road.

At this point, it is a matter of “stacking days” for Donald and getting better day by day before making a definitive choice about his status.
