Frankie Luvu is the Commanders defensive field general. The veteran linebacker’s a team captain and wears the green dot, relaying defensive play calls to the rest of the group.
Washington will operate without Luvu in a Week 2 contest against the Dallas Cowboys. He has been ruled out with a hamstring strain, head coach Dan Quinn told on-site reporters in a Friday press conference.
Quinn also said that tight end Chig Okonkwo (groin) will be out against the Cowboys.
That information was confirmed on the official Commanders injury report, which was release on Friday afternoon.
Defensive lineman was also listed as questionable. He showed up on the participation report Thursday dealing with a back injury. He missed that day and was limited on Friday.

Leo Chenal should start for Luvu in the linebacker corps, but rookie Sonny Styles will assume green dot responsibilities, as he did after Luvu got hurt in the regular season opener at Philadelphia.
Okonkwo’s absence should mean more time for John Bates and Ben Sinnott, depending on what’s needed from a tight end on a specific play. Sinnott will certainly be more active overall, and as a receiver, after taking 18 offensive snaps versus the Eagles.

TE Chig Okonkwo – A hamstring injury took him out of the Eagles game
