NEC Nijmegen drew 1-1 with Levski Sofia in their second Europa League game of the season. The Eredivisie side were 1-0 down at half-time after Reinaldo had given the Bulgarian side the lead. However, former QPR forward Tjaronn Chery was on hand just after the hour mark to rescue a point for NEC Nijmegen. While this was the sides first point in the competition, their opening day hammering by Juventus had put more pressure on them going into their first home game.
Speaking to the media after the game, defender Perr Schuurs described the result as ‘A big disappointment‘. Chery, who spent one and a half seasons with QPR in English football, has had a strong start to the season. The 38-year-old now has five goals and two assists in 13 games. Chery and NEC Nijmegen are now facing an uphill battle in the Europa League to qualify for the next phase. Their next game is away in Zagreb against Dinamo, before facing Omonia Nicosia, Rennes, Ararat Armenia and Benfica at home.
