8 World Cup Games in LA Start Friday, Including 2 US Matches

The World Cup is just about 24 hours away, and while SoFi Stadium isn’t hosting a match on Thursday, the most-watched sporting event in the world will be in Southern California this week.

The US Men’s National Team is taking on Paraguay on Friday in the Americans’ opening match. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. PT.

That matchup is the first of eight to be played in Inglewood, including another Group D matchup against Turkiye later in June.

SoFi Stadium is also hosting three knockout round games, including a quarterfinal.

In short, yes, but be ready for some sticker shock.

Tickets to those USA games at SoFi Stadium will run you north of $900 apiece, which is actually an improvement over what FIFA officials expected.

FIFA priced their tickets for the US’s opening match at $1,120 and up, meaning resellers are likely losing some money, potentially hundreds of dollars.

Why is that? The much-anticipated game didn’t sell out, nor did several others, as reported by Rafael Nam of NPR.

“That’s unusual for high-profile events such as the opening matches of the World Cup — traditionally among the hardest to get tickets in the tournament,” said Nam. “This year will feature three hosts in the U.S., Canada and Mexico — but so far only Mexico’s opening match against South Africa on Thursday looks to be virtually sold out.”

So if you want to see the USMNT opening match, keep an eye out. Prices could fall even further before Friday’s kickoff.
