One of the bigger headlines to break in the Philadelphia 76ers‘ offseason was the firing of Daryl Morey and the subsequent hiring of Mike Gansey, who made the move from the Cleveland Cavaliers‘ front office.

When Gansey got hired, it meant that the Sixers’ executives had decided not to go with current front office mainstay and Philadelphia native, Jameer Nelson, who had been reported as one of the candidates. One of the other things that was reported about Nelson’s status as a candidate was that regardless of how things with the Sixers’ search had shaken out, he’d be ripe for a promotion of some sort.

It appears that Nelson was in line for a promotion, as according to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Philadelphia native will take over as the organization’s “Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations”, a spot that will work under the aforementioned Gansey.

It appears that Nelson’s promotion wasn’t the only shuffle that is to happen in Philadelphia’s front office, as Charania also reported that current general manager Elton Brand, won’t return, ending a six-year stint in the front office after being promoted to the position back in 2018.

Elsewhere in the Sixers’ front office, Charania reports that current assistant general manager Prosper Karangwa has agreed to a multi-year contract extension. Karangwa was the target of speculation about a potential departure to either the Dallas Mavericks or the Los Angeles Lakers earlier in the offseason.

For now, Gansey, Nelson, Karangwa, and the rest of Philadelphia’s front office will continue to work their way through the offseason, with what they’re going to do with the 22nd pick in the 2026 NBA draft being one of the bigger decisions, and a rapidly approaching one at that.
