5 greatest wide receivers in Steelers history

There have been plenty of all-time great receivers in the NFL, and there is an abundance of legendary wideouts who have played for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Here’s a look at the five greatest wide receivers in Steelers history, including a few close calls and a battle for the No. 1 spot.

Stats: 359 receptions, 6,019 receiving yards, 39 touchdowns

Lipps, a blazing fast receiver and return specialist, may not have won a Super Bowl, but his 1984 Offensive Rookie of the Year award, two Pro Bowls, and two Second-Team All-Pro selections earn him the No. 5 spot.

Stats: 860 receptions, 8,723 yards, 63 touchdowns

When it comes to Stallworth, consistency is the name of the game. An exceptionally smooth route runner, Stallworth went on to win four Super Bowls, earn three Pro Bowl honors, and earn a First-Team All-Pro selection, which helped earn him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Stats: 336 receptions, 5,462 yards, 51 touchdowns

It was a toss-up between Swann and Stallworth for the No. 3 spot, but it ultimately went to the receiver who made some of the most spectacular catches in NFL history. Swann, a four-time Super Bowl champion, a three-time Pro Bowler, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro, and a one-time First-Team All-Pro selection, was also named to the Pro Football Hall of Fame for his amazing career. A postseason phenom with some all-time great Super Bowl performances, Swann is deserving of the No. 3 spot.

Stats: 1,000 receptions, 12,083 yards, 85 touchdowns

Ward is the epitome of a selfless player, taking as much pride in blocking as he did catching the football — and it showed on the football field. A two-time Super Bowl champion, as well as the Super Bowl XL MVP, a four-time Pro Bowler, and a three-time Second-Team All-Pro, Ward will forever hold a place in the hearts of Steelers Nation.

Stats: 928 receptions, 12,291 yards, 83 touchdowns

This one is bound to ruffle a few feathers, but whether you love him or hate him, Brown was a generational talent. Arguably one of the greatest route runners in NFL history, Brown went on to earn seven Pro Bowl honors, four First-Team All-Pro selections, and one Second-Team All-Pro selection. He also won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and was named to the NFL 2010s All-Decade Team. While his antics toward the end of his career tarnished some of his storied legacy, there’s little argument that he wasn’t the greatest receiver in Steelers history.
