4 standouts from Day 10 of Patriots training camp practice

There was a significantly more laid-back approach to Wednesday’s training camp practice for the New England Patriots. After two consecutive practices in pads, the Patriots used the 10th practice, which was closed to the public, as a walkthrough session.

There wasn’t a competitive team period, and the team used the time to sharpen other fundamental work on the football field. That doesn’t mean there weren’t keen observations to be taken away from the practice session.

However, instead of focusing on who stood out during competition reps, we are going to focus on the players who appear to be moving up the depth chart given their position at Wednesday’s practice.

Here are the four standout players from Day 10 of Patriots training camp:

The Patriots have a tough decision looming at wide receiver, assuming Kayshon Boutte sticks around for another season. Will they keep six receivers on the roster like last season, or will they keep seven receivers for the 2026 season? If they go with six, the competition is expected to come down between Efton Chism III and 2025 third-round draft pick Kyle Williams.

Chism appears to be in the lead in that department considering he was working with the top unit on Wednesday, while Williams worked with backup quarterback Tommy DeVito. Draft position aside, Chism, a former undrafted free agent, has outplayed Williams to this point.

Despite Lan Larison making a push for the No. 3 running back role, Terrell Jennings was the top backup behind Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson on Wednesday. That might be by design out of respect for Jennings, who served as the No. 3 running back before going down with an injury. If anything, it’s proof that role is his job to lose in the ongoing running back competition.

One of the more impressive standouts through 10 practices has been Patriots rookie cornerback Karon Prunty. In the last two practices in pads, he deflected a Drake Maye pass intended for A.J. Brown, and he also picked off Tommy DeVito. Prunty has made the most of his opportunities with Carlton Davis III sidelined with an injury. On Wednesday, he was once again seen working with the top defensive unit.

Along with Karon Prunty, Channing Canada was another rookie getting reps with the top defensive unit on Wednesday. The undrafted rookie out of TCU has flashed potential on the practice field, and that has earned him more opportunities. Canada is one of those solid finds few are talking about, but that could change in the not-so-distant future for the Patriots.
