35th Jigawa anniversary may be your last in office – ADC tells APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has warned the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State to pay greater attention to the concerns and welfare of citizens, saying the state’s 35th anniversary celebration could be its last in office.

The ADC Deputy Governorship candidate, Malam Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, gave the warning in a goodwill message marking the 35th anniversary of the creation of Jigawa State.

Ringim said the people of the state were closely monitoring the government’s performance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He said the anniversary should not be limited to celebration but should also provide an opportunity for reflection, accountability and an honest assessment of the state’s development trajectory.

“To the APC government, I say this respectfully but clearly: if you must celebrate Jigawa’s 35th anniversary in office, then celebrate it knowing that it may be your last Jigawa anniversary in office,” he said.

According to him, the people of the state were asking questions and assessing government promises against actual performance.

He said Jigawa deserved a development agenda measured by tangible results rather than ceremonies, stressing the need for improvements in education, healthcare, agriculture, employment opportunities and infrastructure.

Ringim also expressed concern over flooding, poor drainage and inadequate waste management in parts of the state, particularly Hadejia and other affected communities.

He urged the government to adopt preventive measures by engaging communities and traditional institutions before such challenges developed into emergencies.

He further expressed concern over the economic hardship facing Nigerians, saying the removal of subsidies had increased pressure on households, businesses and workers through rising transportation, food and other living costs.

He therefore called for policies capable of reducing the economic burden on citizens and restoring their purchasing power.

The politician also urged the government to listen to traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, professionals, women, youths, persons living with disabilities and other citizens, saying they all had valuable contributions to make to the development of the state.

Ringim commended the founding generation, past leaders, workers and citizens for their contributions to the growth of Jigawa since its creation.

He, however, prayed for peace and security across Jigawa and Nigeria, protection from flooding and other disasters, and prosperity for families across the state.
