3 NBA players likely to be in blockbuster trades ahead of draft

The NBA draft is only a few days away, and that means teams are just days away from selecting the future of their franchise. Teams are valuing first-round picks in this year’s class higher than usual due to the depth throughout the draft. Many teams could be looking to move picks, or even players, for additional draft capital.

The draft also signals that the offseason has officially begun. Every team is looking to improve its roster in any way possible, whether that includes trading draft picks, role players, or even stars. There are three players in particular that, if traded, would cause madness across the league.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

This is the obvious one. For years, Giannis has been at the center of offseason and midseason trade rumors. Now, it seems like his chances of being traded are higher than ever, with reports claiming that if the two-time MVP is moved, it would likely happen before the draft.

The Bucks are valuing draft capital over anything else in a possible Giannis trade. Many teams could be in the mix, but a few stand out.

The Heat are at the forefront of the sweepstakes. Miami holds a lottery pick and young players like Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, and Nikola Jovic that could headline a package. The Hornets and Clippers could also emerge as possible suitors before draft night.

Zion Williamson

This move might come as a surprise, but it feels long overdue. Though Zion hasn’t had bad seasons, it doesn’t seem like he has made much development, nor does it seem like he can stay healthy. At this point, it feels like Zion needs a fresh start, and so do the Pelicans.

New Orleans is coming off a 26-win season and holds no first-round picks. In a loaded class, trading Zion to get back into the lottery and kick-start a rebuild could make sense.

Michael Porter Jr.

Though Brooklyn just acquired MPJ last offseason and he has played fairly well, the 27-year-old is entering his prime, and moving him now could be the perfect time.

Brooklyn has no real direction outside of the fact that they’re rebuilding. The team drafted four players in the first round last year and already has young talent in place.

In a loaded class where the Nets hold the sixth pick, don’t be surprised if they move Porter to acquire another lottery selection and continue building toward the future.
