The crashes happened along the Sagamu-Ikorodu Expressway and the Ota-Idiroko Road.

Confirming the incidents, the spokesman of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, Babatunde Akinbiyi, said the first crash happened around 4:10 p.m. near Kam Steel on the Sagamu-Ikorodu route.

According to him, a pickup van drove out from the Kam Steel access road and hit a tricycle, which overturned in the process.

He explained that eight persons were affected in the crash; one woman died on the spot, while two other women were injured.

The injured were taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, for treatment, while the corpse was deposited in the hospital’s morgue.

The second accident occurred earlier, at about 3:25 p.m., at Agarawu, Winners area, along the Ota-Idiroko Road.

Akinbiyi said it involved a yellow Howo truck and a TVS tricycle.

He attributed the crash to brake failure, which made the truck driver lose control and ram into the tricycle.

“Nine people were involved in the second crash. A man and a woman died, while five others sustained injuries.”

He stated that the injured had already been taken to hospital before rescue officials arrived, and one of the corpses was released to relatives, while the other was taken to the General Hospital morgue, Ifo.

Akinbiyi said TRACE officials, alongside other emergency responders, cleared the scenes and restored traffic flow.

He condoled with the families of the deceased and urged motorists to always maintain their vehicles and prioritise safety.
