3 Coziest Movies to Watch on Netflix This Weekend (November 7-8)

We’re late halfway through the Fall season, and with Halloween behind us, it’s time to look ahead at what’s coming. Right now, we’re at that weird, in-between time before the winter holidays take over our cultural landscape. Normally, these few weeks are the perfect time to bask in the homey feeling of Fall, and there’s no better way to do that than with a great, cozy movie.

When one thinks of cozy movies, usually genres like mystery, romantic comedy, fantasy, or animation come to mind. Luckily for you, Netflix has at least one major movie in each of those genres that would be the perfect choice for you to enjoy on a weekend at home. Here, we offer you the three best cozy movies you can watch on Netflix this weekend, ranging from a colorful and delightful animated adventure to a good, old-fashioned whodunit.

‘The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’ (2018)

Let’s start with a delightful mix of rom-com, mystery, and historical drama that deserves far more credit than it usually gets. Lily James stars in The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society as Juliet Ashton, a writer who travels to the island of Guernsey, which endured a harsh German occupation during World War II. There, she learns about the titular society and uncovers a mystery about the society’s founder.

Benefitting from an incredibly charming ensemble cast that also includes Michiel Huisman, Penelope Wilton, Tom Courtenay, and Glen Powell, the film rises on the back of an intimate, heartfelt screenplay and Mike Newell‘s deft direction. James is winning as the lead, sharing sweet chemistry with Huisman and driving the narrative with the perfect balance of spunky determination and genuine emotion. There’s a real sense of romantic warmth in this small but quirky island that makes the movie all the more entertaining and easy to revisit. Come for the romance and stay for the actually intriguing mystery and the sense of community between the oddball islanders.

‘Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl’ (2024)

What can possibly be cozier than a Wallace and Gromit adventure? Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl sees the intelligent and reliable dog Gromit growing concerned that his well-natured owner, Wallace (Ben Whitehead), has become overly dependent on the robotic garden gnome Norbot. Things take a turn when the criminal penguin mastermind Feathers McGraw steals Norbot to frame Wallace for a series of crimes, including the theft of the iconic Blue Diamond.

The film has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and that perfect score is more than deserved. Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl is an enchanting claymation adventure that soars on the back of the dynamic between the two titular and universally beloved characters: one scene with Wallace and Gromit is more fun, nuanced, and lovely than most other movies out there. There’s a lot of creativity on display, from the charming visuals to the clever, dry, incredibly British humor. The plot moves at a fast pace, the jokes land without fail, and the warm tone makes the whole thing endlessly enjoyable. It’s one of those movies that feels like a literal warm hug, one that won’t fail at bringing a smile to your face.

‘The Thursday Murder Club’ (2025)

Any movie led by the talents of Celia Imrie, Sir Ben Kingsley, Dame Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan is one that’s worth seeing, especially if they’re playing amateur sleuths. That’s exactly what The Thursday Murder Club is about, based on the eponymous novel. The plot centers on four retirees at an English retirement village who enjoy theorizing about cold cases. They get their chance to level up when a murder happens right under their noses.

Stories about amateur sleuths proving their talent for actual crime-solving are a dime a dozen, but rarely are they more delightful. The Thursday Murder Club is a love letter to the whodunit genre with a nostalgic approach that makes it perfect for a quiet afternoon in. The plot is engaging but not particularly demanding, and the four incredible actors at the center are having the time of their lives. The result is a classic British movie that perfectly balances mystery with gentle humor and plenty of emotional moments. It doesn’t really have many thrills, but honestly, it doesn’t need them: in fact, the film is at its best when its four legendary protagonists are engaging with each other.
