26 days till Arizona Cardinals’ opener: Remembering the 1926 season

We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals‘ regular season. Today, Tuesday, August 18, is 26 days away from the Arizona Cardinals’ regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.

With 26 days until Week 1, let’s look back at the 1926 season for the Cardinals.

In 1926, the Cardinals went 5-6-1. They started the season 4-0 and 5-1 but then went 0-5-1 the rest of the way. They scored 12 total points over their final 8 games, getting shut out five times.

They allowed only seven total points in their 4-0 start, but then their offensive problems got in the way. Their one win in their final 8 games was a 3-2 win, and they had a scoreless tie for the non-loss.

They had only six offensive touchdowns. They had two on defense and one on special teams off a blocked punt. Red Dunn threw the only two touchdown passes the team had. Mickey MacDonnell and Ike Mahoney both tied for the team lead, scoring two touchdowns.
