2027: Security will be restored across Nigeria if I'm elected president – Atiku

The African Democratic Congress, ADC, presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has pledged to restore security across Nigeria if elected president in 2027.

Atiku made the pledge on Wednesday during the flag-off of his presidential campaign in Sokoto State, where he urged Nigerians to support the party in the forthcoming election.

He said restoring security across the country remained one of the promises he had made to Nigerians.

The campaign flag-off came a day after Atiku accused the Sokoto State Government and security operatives of attempting to disrupt the rally.

He alleged that the Department of State Services, DSS, was recruiting protesters to cause disturbances and create conditions that could lead to the imposition of a curfew.

Atiku also accused the state government of denying the ADC access to public facilities and logistical support for the campaign.

The DSS subsequently ordered an investigation into the allegations, although it described the claims as inconsistent with its operations.

The service said its operatives had provided security protection to political actors across party lines, citing the evacuation of the ADC governorship candidate in Sokoto, Mannir Dan’iya, after an attack on October 31.

Atiku proceeded with the campaign flag-off despite the controversy, urging Nigerians to vote for the ADC in the 2027 general election.
