2026 World Cup: Wayne Rooney names two players England is missing after 0-0 draw with Ghana

Former England striker, Wayne Rooney has identified two players that the England squad is missing in their World Cup squad.

He stated that the team felt incomplete without these players during their goalless draw against Ghana on Tuesday night.

Following the impressive 4-2 win over Croatia in their opening match, the situation was different in Boston, where the Three Lions’ momentum faltered.

Thomas Tuchel’s team dominated the game with nearly 79 percent possession and registered 19 shots compared to Ghana’s two, yet the match ended in a stalemate.

England struggled to find a breakthrough until the closing minutes, when Bukayo Saka, Nico O’Reilly, and Harry Kane all came close to scoring.

Ghana’s disciplined defense excelled, successfully blocking numerous attempts before they could threaten their goal.

Rooney believes it was a match that called for players like Phil Foden and Cole Palmer, both of whom were omitted from the England squad, but could have been instrumental in unlocking the Ghanaian defense in Boston.

“These games are more difficult than games against better teams that are better going forward. There’s more space,” said the Manchester United legend as quoted by Metro.

“I don’t want to go back to it, but these games are when you need a Phil Foden or a Cole Palmer. Clever players in tight areas.”
