Unbelievable as it may sound, it has indeed been twenty years since the release of Madhouse’s now iconic anime adaptation of Death Note. Over the last two decades, the beloved series created by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata has grown into not only a go-to starter anime but also a psychological thriller classic and a cultural icon.

Beyond just anime and manga, Death Note has also influenced pop culture, cyberculture, and fashion, and all of it without the need for a revival or remaster in the last twenty years. That said, after all this time, Death Note is finally making a comeback, and with a collaboration that’s absolutely worth dying for.

Death Note Promises Killer Manicures With New Mooncat Collab

You no longer need to make a deal with a shinigami to have killer nails, as Death Note just dropped the perfect nail collab. In celebration of the series’ 20th anniversary, Death Note has partnered with the indie nail brand Mooncat to release a new gorgeous collection of nail lacquers directly inspired by the series’ unique, dark, alluring aesthetic that has enamored audiences for decades. The collection, which includes nine striking, special-effect shades, launched on October 30, 2026, and is available to shop on Mooncat’s official website, which offers shipping across the US as well as internationally.

Every lacquer in the collection is directly inspired by the series, from the shades themselves to their names. The collection includes shimmers, glitters, mattes, thermal polishes that shift into a different color based on the temperature, and magnetic cat-eye polishes that reveal their sparkle when magnetized. The shades included in the collab and their descriptions are as follows:

  • Sunset Over Tokyo: A duochrome blue and yellow shimmery shade.
  • Sugarfuel Brain Calories: A sheer shimmery blue shade packed with sparkle, holographic glitter, star-shaped glitter, and glitter flakes.
  • Mourning Rain: A matte duochrome gray and green shimmery shade.
  • Gods of Death Love Apples: A bright red shimmery matte shade.
  • God of the New World: A thermal polish that shifts from burgundy to charcoal black when warm.
  • Misa Misa: A purple-pink magnetic cat eye shade.
  • Rem’s Requiem: A light pink-lavender magnetic cat eye polish with a gray base and silver sparkle.
  • Ryuk Was Bored: A navy blue to silver magnetic cat eye shade.
  • Shinigami Realm: A dark gray to silver thermal polish that turns silver when warm.

The magnetic and thermal polishes retail for $18 USD each, while the rest (Sunset Over Tokyo, Sugarfuel Brain Calories, Mourning Rain, Gods of Death Love Apples) retail for $17 each. The collection comes with its own custom bottles and matte black caps that set it apart from the rest of Mooncat’s brochure.

Death Note Drops New Must-Have Collection

Fans can shop each lacquer individually or grab the whole collection as a limited-edition collector’s box set, which is housed in a luxurious notebook-style box modeled after the eponymous Death Note. The collector’s box set retails for $139 and also comes with an exclusive sticker sheet as well as a magnetic wand to accompany the magnetic nail paints included in the collection. With a value of $158, the box set is not only a great deal but a must-have collectible for dedicated collectors and Death Note mega-fans.

All in all, Death Note’s newest collab with Mooncat is evidently well-thought-out through and through. From the dark, mysterious color palette with its almost magical finishes that fit right into the series’ supernatural world, to the witty shade names full of references to the series and its characters, Mooncat’s new Death Note collection feels like it’s been curated by fans for the fans, and it proves the franchise is still just as popular and alive even without a revival or new release in the last twenty years.
