Nothing has been said with total certainty.

But signs definitely point to Winnipeg Jets goalie Connor Hellebuyck wanting a trade to a more sure-thing contender.

The Jets are in an odd spot, because a decent amount of their roster actually looks like it could be involved in the playoff picture, but they just had a brutal season.

Hellebuyck wasn’t at his best, either, but it’s always hard to separate that from a team that struggled overall.

Regardless, whispers are that he wants out.

“Hellebuyck’s comments after the regular season have led to speculation that he wants a trade,” ESPN wrote on Monday in a non-bylined article.

It won’t be easy, though.

To trade Hellebuyck, Winnipeg would have to get a massive offer. And it would have to come from somewhere that the goalie actually wants to go.

“A deal for the three-time Vezina Trophy winner would have to wow GM Kevin Cheveldayoff — and be approved by Hellebuyck, who has a no-movement clause — but would obviously be a franchise-altering one,” ESPN writes.

A lot of NHL contracts have no-movement clauses in them, which can make situations like this even tougher. Hellebuyck may want out of town, but he wouldn’t want to end up just anywhere.

So everything has to align to pull off a deal of this magnitude.

Maybe it will, and if it does, the Jets push their future in a totally different direction.

It wouldn’t be shocking if it didn’t, though, because that’s two tough things to line up.
