Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake - Everything To Do In Castle Town

· · 3 min read

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a classic for myriad reasons. Not only does the music-forward game have one of the best soundtracks in the entire series (which is played frequently during Zelda concerts as one of the marquee entries), it also plays incredibly well, even more so now that the remake has landed.

So when we say there’s a decent amount of stuff to do in any given location, we mean it, especially when it comes to Castle Town, directly outside of Hyrule Castle during Young Link’s timeline. Here’s everything you can do while you’re there, including shopping and useful upgrades.

The Bazaar (General Store)

As a pretty standard general store, the bazaar owner will sell you a variety of basic goods. Here’s what the bazaar sells:

Keep a few things in mind about the bazaar. If you speak to the Hylian Soldier on the way to Death Mountain, the shield will be discounted to 60 Rupees.

You’ll also need a Bomb Bag and the bow to buy the bombs and arrows from the bazaar.

The Potion Store

For the most part, the Potion Store offers literal potions, as well as items you can store in a bottle:

Red and Green Potions are great to buy from the Potion Store, as they won’t break the bank and can come in handy in dungeons.

The Potion Store is open during the day.

The Shooting Gallery

You can partake in the Shooting Gallery as soon as you get to Castle Town, since you inherently get the slingshot inside of the Deku Tree before you arrive.

For a fee, you can try to take down the targets, and the reward for the basic course is a bigger Deku-Seed bag.

The Shooting Gallery is open during the day.

The Happy Mask Shop Questline

The Happy Mask Shop is a full questline that involves multiple steps. To kick off this questline, head to the Happy Mask Shop, speak to the proprieter, and buy the Keaton Mask.

Give it to the gatekeeper guard on the way to Death Mountain, at the highest point of Kakariko Village. Then go back to the Mask Shop and continue the questline. The NPC out front can give you hints on whom to deliver the masks to.

The Happy Mask Shop is open during the day.

The Bombchu Bowling Alley

Bombchu Bowling is as simple as aiming a Bombchu at the center of the target and letting it rip. For 10 Rupees, you can give it a go. One prize is a bigger Bomb Bag (up to 30), which is useful but not required.

The Bombchu Store

Arguably the simplest store in the game, the Bombchu Store sells Bombchus, mobile bombs useful for puzzles and enemies alike.

The Bombchu Store sells them in increments of:

The Bombchu Store is open at night.

The Treasure-Chest Shop

For 10 Rupees, you can gamble on getting five chest picks in a row, which will grant you a Piece of Heart. It’s a simple premise, and one for completionists to eventually run through after they’ve picked up the Lens of Truth later in the game (which allows you to see inside the chests).

The Treasure Chest Shop is open at night.

Where Are The Castle Town Shops As An Adult?

Since Ganondorf destroyed Castle Town in the future, many elements of Castle Town have been moved to Kakariko Village next door when you’re Adult Link.

If you really want to enjoy Castle Town in all its splendor in Ocarina of Time, warp to the Temple of Time, put the Master Sword back in its spot, and go straight back to Young Link’s timeline. Walk out of the Temple of Time, and you’re smack-dab in the middle of the thriving Castle Town.
