Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake - Deku Tree Dungeon Guide
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake has a lot of the same parts; they’re just presented differently. Not every dungeon will be exactly how you remember it, especially when it comes to the aesthetics. Nearly every aspect of Ocarina of Time has been revamped, and some dungeons look so different it’s like they’re from a different game.
The Deku Tree, however, has remained comfortably similar to how it was on the Nintendo 64 all those years ago. Here’s how to get through it, grab all the items inside, and square off against the dungeon boss at the end, which grants Link an extra Heart.
How To Complete The Remake Deku Tree Dungeon
After you walk into the Great Deku Tree, Navi will regale you with her knowledge of monsters. Thankfully, you don’t have to listen to anything she says, but if you want, you can press the left D-pad to bring up helpful hints. For now, we’ll beat the dungeon without her.
Climb up the vine in front of you (past the spider’s web on the ground) and walk over to the chest to get the dungeon map. Keep going and interact with the stone door to enter the next room.
Here you’ll need to defeat a Deku Scrub. Lock on with ZL and move away from the Scrub until it shoots at you: your shield will automatically deflect the projectile back. Slash him after he pops up out of the ground, and he’ll run away, give you a tip, and a heart.
Continue forward into the next room, jumping along the way to avoid the broken wood, and open the chest for a Fairy Slingshot. Turn around, select the slingshot with the R button, and shoot it at the eye on the wall. If you want, you can shoot the Skulltula on the vine to the right and get three Deku Nuts from the small chest. The bushes on the ground give you seeds, which you use as ammo for the Fairy Slingshot. Exit the room and head forward into the main hall you started in.
With the Fairy Slingshot, you can aim up and take down the Skulltulas, then continue climbing the vine. To take out the Giant Skulltula, shoot it with your slingshot, then jump and slash to hit its tender blue weak point while it’s spinning.
Enter the room blocked by the Giant Skulltula, and stand on the button to the right to raise the platforms. Run and jump over them and open the chest for a Compass. You can either head out of the room now back into the main hall, or crawl underneath the vines behind the Compass chest for a secret room (and a chest with three Deku Nuts).
In the main hall, turn left in the doorway and continue climbing up the tree. At the end of the path, you’ll find a wooden diving board of sorts. Jump off into the spiderweb to smash it and end up at the bottom of the dungeon. Get out of the water and head right. Press the button on the ground to burn the web and access the chest (three Deku Sticks).
You’ll use these sticks to make fire and burn more webs. Take out the stick, light it on fire, then turn around and go burn the web across the way (you don’t need to go to the raised platform yet). You can take out the smaller Skulltula against the water grate on the ground, which is actually a Gold Skulltula.
Another Gold Skulltula is on the large vertical vine climb on the way back up to where the web broke.
Defeat the Deku Scrub using the shield to get the code (2, 3, 1). Aim up and shoot the eye above the closed/gated door with your slingshot. Enter the room, look left, and dive to press the button underwater. Use the platform to get across now that the giant vine is out of the way. Enter the door ahead of you.
Push the block so it lines up in the middle of the room, then leap up to the next area. Equip a Deku Stick and light all the torches on fire to solve the puzzle. The room on the left holds a Gold Skulltula; the room on the right is where you need to go. Crawl through the hole and push the block down for a shortcut.
Then light your Deku Stick on fire using the torch below, head back up, and roll into the web. Remember the code? You’ll need to use “2, 3, 1” here. Deflect the shots back at the central Deku Scrub first, then the third one on the right, then the first one on the left.
Enter the next room after speaking to the first Scrub. In the next room, you’ll square off against the dungeon boss: Gohma.
How To Defeat Gohma
To avoid its attacks, don’t square off against Gohma directly. In this fight, just keep your distance from Gohma until it crawls along the ceiling. That’s your cue to shoot at Gohma’s eye with your slingshot, causing it to slam down into the ground. After it drops, sprint toward it and slash its eye as much as you can.
You’ll also get the chance to shoot at Gohma’s eye when it’s doing attacks on the ground, which you can bait out by getting close, and backflipping as it attacks. Rinse and repeat until it’s down. You’ll get an additional Heart for your trouble. Enter the portal on the ground to complete the dungeon.
Congrats, that’s your first dungeon down in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, and many more to go. With the skills that you’ve learned here (particularly when it comes to item swapping, and using newly introduced gear in the dungeon you’re currently on), you’re well on your way to completing your quest.
