Zelda: A Link To The Past HD Unveiled In New Trailer

· · 3 min read

It may not receive the same amount of attention as other classic The Legend of Zelda entries such as Wind Waker, Ocarina of Time, and Twilight Princess, but there is no denying that The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is remembered fondly.

First launching on the SNES back in 1991, it was one of the earliest entries as only the third installment, but serves as a prequel to the story so far. Throughout the events of A Link to the Past, we follow Link once more as he journeys to Hyrule to defeat Demon King Ganon and rescue the descendants of the Seven Sages. Honestly, does this guy ever get a day off?

However, what makes A Link to the Past such an important entry in the long-running Nintendo franchise, is that it was the first installment to introduce the Master Sword, a key item over three decades later.

Now, despite receiving a sequel, A Link Between Worlds, back in 2013, as well as multiple re-releases on various Nintendo hardware, A Link to the Past is set to return in 2026 courtesy of a PC port by LeJiww.

Called Triforge, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past PC port comes alongside HD enhancements such as HD water, lighting, world map, as well as a dynamic atmosphere, and even widescreen options. Not only that, but it will support mods that introduce a map editor, music packs, a day and night cycle, and a randomizer, to name but a few options.

Showcased over on Twitter/X courtesy of user Reticent, we can see the PC port in action, and as stunning as it looks, it is worth noting that this enhanced version of A Link to the Past does use AI, so this may be a project you will want to skip out on if you do not support the use of generative AI.

However, if you are still interested in LeJiww’s PC port, built using C#, .NET, and MonoGame, you can head over to the YouTube page to check it out in full. As such, you can see the full description, which reads:

“Triforge brings new possibilities to this classic adventure while preserving the original experience. Without enhancements or mods, the game behaves exactly like the original, including its original bugs. This is not an emulator. The original game’s logic runs as native code. Triforge is based on the incredible work of the zelda3 project by snesrev, whose C reimplementation of A Link to the Past made this project possible. I ported that code line by line to C# and built the enhancements and modding system around it.”

Last but not least, we can see the full feature list:

Better yet, this The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past PC port will be free to download when it launches. However, when it launches remains a mystery at the time of writing, but we will keep you updated on its development.
