'You have to be ambitious' - Kamason aims for first-team push

Manchester United youngster Jaydan Kamason is hoping to stay injury free this season to give him a chance to push for a place in Michael Carrick’s senior squad.

The 19-year-old England youth international had two extended periods on the sidelines last term, which prevented him making as much progress as he would have liked.

He has a lot of admirers at Old Trafford, though, and was one of the academy players who has excelled over the opening two games of United’s pre-season, adding a well-taken fifth goal to the two assists in Friday’s 5-0 win over Rosenborg.

Kamason is yet to discover whether he will remain at United this season or go out on loan. But, most importantly, the full-back is hoping to stay fit.

“Last season, unfortunately, I had two injuries,” he said. “Hopefully this season will be more positive.

“I’m just trying to stay fit now and show my ability on the pitch.

“I’m always trying to aspire to get to that level. If I need a few loans or whatever, we’ll have to see, but I’m trying to get to that top level – and that’s Manchester United. You have to be ambitious.”

Kamason was the first player to sign scholariship forms at United after coming through the club’s Emerging Talent Programme, which he joined at 10, while playing for grassroots team Stockport Vikings.

His transition to the first team will be helped by Travis Binnion moving up from his position as head of United’s Premier League 2 side to join Carrick’s senior coaching group.

“Travis is a top person and top coach,” said Kamason.

“He’s a great link between the academy and the first team, so it is good to have him around and hopefully he can continue to help me.”
