If the New York Yankees were to make a trade with the Baltimore Orioles, many would want it to be for Adley Rutschman. 

Unfortunately for New York and its fan base, the chances of landing a player of Rutschman’s caliber are probably pretty slim, unless the Orioles really want to move a guy who has been a superstar at points throughout his career to a division rival. 

Considering that doesn’t seem very likely, if the Yankees are to make a trade with Baltimore, it will likely be for a reliever or a lesser type of player. 

However, there’s still reason to believe that both teams could be interested in making a trade, with Yennier Cano recently being floated as an option.

“Cano, on the other hand, is a trickier case, given that he won’t be a free agent until after the 2028 season. Then again, he’s had an awfully hard time finding both health and consistency during his O’s career, and Baltimore could be motivated to move him while he’s on the mound and pitching well. If they can get a meaningful prospect or two in return, that could be worth more than two seasons of a reliever who’s been difficult to trust,” Chris Landers wrote.

Cano has been really good at times over the past few seasons, but there have been other times when he looks rather average. 

His strikeout numbers are the biggest concern to me, striking out just 27 hitters in 29.0 innings this season. 

If he can improve on that in the second half of the campaign, I don’t think he’d be a bad option for the Yankees to go after, but I have my doubts about that.
