Before tonight’s series opener against the St. Louis Cardinals, the New York Yankees have made a trio of roster moves. 

First, the AL East club has added newly acquired first baseman Luis Garcia Jr. to the roster following yesterday’s trade with the Washington Nationals. 

There’s no word if Garcia will be in tonight’s starting lineup, but he’s arrived in New York and has met with reporters, according to an X post from MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.

The Yankees had an opening in the bullpen, so right-hander Kervin Castro was promoted from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. 

Finally, New York has optioned infielder/outfielder Max Schuemann to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. 

Schuemann has provided the Yankees with decent production off the bench since his promotion following Giancarlo Stanton’s calf injury.

He was acquired from the Athletics in an offseason trade and posted a .694 OPS with two home runs and eight RBIs in 40 games. 

For the Yankees, Schuemann has made appearances at all three outfield positions, shortstop, and second and third base. 

The Yankees hope to add at least another hitter or two before Monday’s 6 p.m. EDT trade deadline. They’ve struggled on offense without three-time AL MVP Aaron Judge.
